Spire is Awarded LEED Gold Certification

We are proud to share the news that Spire has been awarded LEED Gold. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the most widely used green building rating system in the world and an international symbol of excellence. Through design, construction and operations practices that improve environmental and human health, LEED-certified buildings are helping to make the world more sustainable.

“Sprire’s LEED certification demonstrates tremendous green building leadership,” said Peter Templeton, president and CEO, USGBC. “LEED was created to make the world a better place and revolutionize our buildings and communities by providing everyone with access to healthy, green and high performing buildings. Spire is a prime example of how the innovative work of project teams can create local solutions that contribute to making a global difference.”

Spire achieved LEED certification for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions in areas including sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. Green buildings allow communities to operate more sustainably and give the people inside them a healthier, more comfortable space to live.

Spire is constructed of concrete with post-tensioned slabs. Designed to emphasize the connection to the outdoors, the residences feature nature-inspired materials and finishes that offer a peaceful retreat from the bustle of everyday living. Thoughtful details include energy efficient LED lighting and manual roller shades for all windows. The building also includes energy efficient heating and air conditioning, optional electric vehicle charging, water efficient landscaping and expansive rooftop vision glazing.

Seattle’s first (and only) Automated Parking System is at Spire which includes three individual auto ports. The parking system, designed by Parkworks, uses a system of dollies on rails to carry vehicles from the three elevators to the stalls taking ~ three minutes to retrieve a car that is requested using a card reader in the basement level. “Spire celebrates intelligent design, connectivity and convenience for effortless city living and is making history in Seattle with the city’s first automated parking system,” said Paul Menzies, CEO of Laconia Development

Spire is located at the edge of everything with easy access to walk or bike to the necessities of everyday living. The striking architecture enhances the Seattle skyline while offering a dynamic and welcoming pedestrian environment at the building’s base. Close proximity to the waterfront, green spaces and outdoor activities act as a counterpoint to city living with its myriad of spectacular attractions. Our downtown Seattle location offers a well-connected bus system with two stops across the street on Denny Way and 6th Ave and Denny Way and Linden Ave N. The monorail is an ~ 10-minute walk, and light rail is ~ .4 miles from Spire at Westlake Ave & 7th Ave that takes you to the sports stadiums, airport, etc.

“Achieving LEED certification is more than just implementing sustainable practices. It represents a commitment to making the world a better place and influencing others to do better,” said Peter Templeton, president and CEO, USGBC. “Given the extraordinary importance of climate protection and the central role buildings play in that effort, Spire is creating a path forward through their LEED certification.”
